Get Up Close to GOES-U

At Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, you can watch a rocket launch from only a few miles away. You also get the rare opportunity to meet the team behind the payload – what the rocket is sending into space.

On Monday, June 24 through Wednesday, June 26, meet the GOES-U team members and learn about the mission, which is currently slated to launch on Tuesday, June 25 atop a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.


About the Mission:

GOES-U will monitor Earth’s weather and environmental phenomena that directly impact life on our planet. This and other satellites in the series track hurricanes, severe storms and tornados, air quality, sea surface temperature and more.


There will be three activations where you can learn about the mission:



Space Shuttle Atlantis®

(Bottom Floor)

Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics

Through engaging multimedia, get up close to artifacts for the GOES-U EXIS instrument, like the Extreme Ultraviolet and X-ray Irradiance Sensors (EXIS) model.


L3Harris Activation

Learn about L3Harris’ role in the GOES-U mission.


Apollo/Saturn V Center

Accessible via the Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour

Meet the team at NASA involved with the mission. Hands-on activities bring the mission to life.
