Parker Solar Probe Presentations
Dec 07, 2024 - Dec 07, 2024 Journey to Mars: Launched by United Launch AllianceYou may recall the launch of NASA’s Parker Solar Probe back in August of 2018. The mission sent Parker on a long and important journey to the Sun. Now, six years later, the probe will make history. On December 24, 2024, Parker will come within just 3.8 million miles of the Sun’s surface – while moving at speeds that would bring it from New York to Washington DC in one second. The probe will gather data on the Sun to better understand the solar activity that influences and affects life on and above Earth.
Ahead of this mission milestone, join us as we welcome subject matter experts Nick Pinkine, Chief Engineer of APL’s Space Mission Operations group and the Mission Operations Manager for the Parker Solar Probe mission and Nour E. Rawafi, Ph.D., a Parker Solar Probe Project Scientist at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. They will be hosting presentations about this incredible mission inside Journey To Mars launched by United Launch Alliance at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. After each presentation, watch short film “Science Through Shadows” from the Fiske Planetarium at University of Colorado, Boulder.
