MISSION

United Launch Alliance will launch the USSF 8 (GSSAP 5 & 6) mission aboard an Atlas V rocket. This mission includes the fifth and sixth satellites for the Space Force’s Geosynchronous Space Situational Awareness Program (GSSAP). It seeks to help the military track and observe objects in geosynchronous orbit.

 

LAUNCH VIEWING 

Watch liftoff from the following locations. Each features bleacher seating and live launch commentary, and is included with daily admission.

 

Atlantis North Lawn Viewing Area
Located to the left when approaching Space Shuttle Atlantis®

  • Approximately 7.1 miles/11.4 kilometers from launch pad
  • Viewing area opens at 12:00 PM
  • See the rocket once it clears the tree line

 

Banana Creek Launch Viewing Area at the Apollo/Saturn V Center
With a bus transportation reservation*

  • Approximately 5.4 miles/8.7 kilometers from launch pad
  • Viewing area opens at 12:00 PM
  • See the rocket leave the launch pad

*Bus transportation reservations must be made upon arrival to the visitor complex and are available on a first come, first served basis. Reservations must be made for tour times between 9:30 AM and 1:30 PM in order to arrive at the launch viewing site on time. Follow in-park instructions at the front entrance the morning of the launch.

Availability of upcoming viewing opportunities is dependent upon the scheduled launch time and is subject to NASA and U.S. Space Force approval. Launch date, time, and viewing opportunities are subject to change. Launches can be affected by technical and mechanical issues as well as range operations and weather, either in advance or at the last minute.
