2019 U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame Induction

Apr 06, 2019 - Apr 06, 2019 Kennedy Space Center

Two astronauts will be awarded the highest honor in their industry and Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex welcomes you to join this year’s U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame induction ceremony! Space shuttle astronauts James F. Buchli and Janet Kavandi will be inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame on April 6, 2019. The event will take place in Space Shuttle Atlantis® while the real orbiter floats overhead. Buchli and Kavandi will join 99 other individuals who have received this prestigious honor. Selected by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, inductees must have made their first flight at least 17 years before the induction, and orbited the Earth at least once.

The ceremony is included with daily admission to the visitor complex. Further details of the event will be added in the upcoming weeks.

While at the visitor complex, be sure to visit the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame located inside Heroes & Legends. There, you will learn about all of the astronauts who belong to this prestigious group through interactive kiosks. Do not forget to snap a photo with the Mercury 7 astronauts!

The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) participated in creating a venue where space travelers could be remembered – the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, which opened in 1990. Today, the foundation serves as a consultant for the Hall of Fame, which includes conducting the selection process of astronauts for enshrinement by an outside committee.
